Often quoted … usually brash … but always considered a genius at the chess board, Bobby Fischer has died.

For many of us here in the United States he was our hero, and for many around the world that love the game of chess he was our teacher. He will be missed by those of us who loved his chess and passion for the game.

The 2008 Corus Chess Tournament will have the top five rated players in the world participating. Anand, Kramnik, Topalov, Leko, and Ivanchuk.

The tournament will run from January 11th – 27th in Wijk aan Zee, Netherlands. It has a category 20 rating making it one of the strongest in the world.

Though neither of the nation states still exist today organizers turned back time  to rekindle one of the best and most well known chess events of the 1950’s through 1980’s.

Svetozar Gligorić and Victor Korchnoi battled on board one as in times of old to the delight of old school chess enthusiasts.
